Why I am here

There are a number of reasons for students to seek out the counselor at school. The times that we live in can be difficult and stressful. In addition, the middle school years are a time of physical, emotional, and mental change for students. Many personal and school related problems have a direct impact on a child's ability to learn. The school counselor provides a safe, confidential environment for all students. Students can see the counselor through self-referral, parent request, administrative referral, teacher referral, or a referral by a friend.

The school counselor provides many services...

The middle school counselor's role encompasses counseling, consulting, and coordination. A comprehensive school counseling program covers three areas of student development:

       *Academic
       *Career
       *Personal/Social

The school counselor has a very unique role in the school. Among other things, the counselor is available to:

*talk to students individually and in groups about their educational, personal, and social concerns
*aid teachers and parents in helping children
*assist in crisis situations
*help students develop self-understanding and self-esteem
*plan and implement various classroom activities
*coordinate CSAP testing
*act as a consultant and referral source between school, parents, and community
*coordinate efforts with other school personnel
*maintain confidentiality (in most cases)
